Every Friday night at The Larson's, the aroma of freshly baked pizza fills the air, marking the beginning of a cherished tradition. As the sun dips below the horizon, signaling the end of another week, our homestead comes alive with the excitement of pizza night. It's a time when family and friends gather around the table, sharing stories and laughter, while indulging in delicious homemade pizza.
In our household, pizza night isn't just about the toppings—it's about the entire experience. While I take charge of crafting the perfect pizza dough, Mr. Larson eagerly oversees the selection and preparation of toppings. Together, we transform simple ingredients into a culinary masterpiece that delights everyone who joins us at the table.
To kick off our pizza-making extravaganza, we gather the necessary tools: a large mixing bowl, a cast iron skillet, measuring cups and spoons, and a kitchen towel. With everything in place, we embark on our pizza-making journey, starting with the most crucial element—the oven.

Tools Needed:
Ingredients for Pizza Dough:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp avocado oil
- 3/4 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, salt, avocado oil, and warm water. Stir together until well combined.
2. Once the mixture is well combined, knead the dough in the bowl for five minutes until it forms a smooth and elastic ball.
3. Spread the dough out evenly in the bottom of a well oiled cast iron skillet. If it doesn't stretch all the way, that's perfectly fine—don't force it. Next, gently lay a kitchen towel over the cast iron and let it rest for 20 minutes.
4. After 20 minutes, return to the dough and stretch it out to cover the entire bottom of the skillet.
5. Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C).
6. Once the dough is stretched out in the skillet, add your favorite sauce and toppings.
7. Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are bubbly and delicious.
